Strength & Surrender: A Yoga Retreat in the Caribbean

January 18th - 25th, 2025
with Shannah Green & Ramsay Trussell

Jungle Bay Resort/www.junglebaydominica.com

January is the perfect time to escape New England and spend a week in this breathtaking coastal paradise on the island of Dominica in the Caribbean. Dominica (not to be confused with the Dominican Republic) has been nicknamed the "Nature Isle of the Caribbean". The island  boasts 365 rivers & streams, hidden waterfalls, freshwater lakes, hot sulphur springs, a "boiling lake", lush mountainous tropical forest. It is home to many rare plant, animal and bird species.

There is no shortage of ADVENTURES to be had on Dominica. Snorkelers rave about Scott’s Head and the popular Champagne Beach; at which tiny, warm bubbles float up from the geothermal vents, resembling a glass of bubbly Champagne. Both snorkeling sites are within 10 minutes from Jungle Bay. Dominica is also known as the Whale Watching capital of the Caribbean; more than a half-dozen types of whales and a dozen types of dolphins have been identified in Dominica’s waters.

At Playa Viva, just outside of Zihuatanejo, they believe in the simple luxury of nature. Their property is situated on a mile of pristine private beach surrounded by lush green palms. You’ll fall asleep to the lullaby of the Pacific Ocean and wake to the warm breeze on your skin. Tour the on-site farm where they grow some of their food, including coconuts, mangos, cashews, tamarind, tomatoes, lettuces, cactus and many other delights. Visit the baby sea turtle sanctuary and explore the diverse coastal ecosystem. With each passing moment at Playa Viva, you’ll feel more connected to the natural world around you.
Wellness is central to every aspect of Playa Viva. When we feel healthy and well, we are better able to serve our planet and ourselves. Experience the complete transformation that comes from being fully immersed in nature. Enjoy healthy, locally sourced food; daily beachside yoga classes; and a variety of massage services.
